Lange Nacht der Forschung 2016
On Friday, April 22nd, 2016, the Long Night of Research (LNF 2016) took place in Austria for the seventh time. More than 180,000 visitors used the opportunity to visit the 2,183 stations at 253 locations and to learn more about current projects as well as the latest findings and technologies of research in Austria.
The Doctoral Program “Chromsome Dynamics” represented MFPL and hosted a station where visitors could extract DNA from strawberries and raspberries, examine their own oral mucosa cells under the microscope and also get a glimpse of the model organisms C. elegans (worms), Tetrahymena (ciliates) and Arabidopsis thaliana (plant). Additionally, visitors could showcase what they learned in a quiz to win a range of prizes. The station proved popular with all age groups. Students involved were amazed by the amount of visitors, overwhelmed by their enthusiasm and enjoyed presenting their model organisms and research topics to a broader audience.
